This stunning work marks the birth of German oratorio. It is part of the highest peaks of sacred music but also of universal music.
This oratorio in three parts takes us from chaos to harmony. Haydn transcends every rule of his art to evoke this world in which nothing has taken shape yet; then the one which is being populated by God’s creatures until Adam and Eve, happy couple, celebrating the works of Almighty God in the Garden of Eden.
This version, recorded by Igor Markevitch, is a reference. The three soloists are exceptional.
To complete this album, the famous motet “Exsultate Jubilate” by Mozart in the unforgettable version sung by Elisabeth Schwarzkopf and conducted by Walter Susskind.
