Plaintive melodies, passionate dances: Melancholy vocal solos and artfully crafted airs in which soloist and chorus alternate; vigorous dance songs like the famous “Kalinka”, which accelerates from a slow start to a madly whirling climax. This selection of folk songs – sung by one of the best choirs in Russia – looks deep into the rich storehouse of the Russian soul.
