Emmanuel Pahud’s reputation as the finest flute player in the world is well-established and well-deserved.  He has recorded a wealth and breadth of repertoire which would be the envy of any recording artist.  His last two releases are indicative of this – a double album consisting of French music for winds and 20th century quintets with the wind super-group Les Vents Français, and a recital disc of music from around the world with guitarist and composer Christian Rivet.

This is a 3 CD collection of some of the greatest music ever written for the wind quintet and piano in a number of instrument combinations.  The repertoire spans the Classical and Romantic periods, ranging from the late 18th century quintets for piano and winds by Mozart and Beethoven, through to the sextets for piano and winds by Poulenc and Roussel written in the early 20th century. The works are grouped with French works on CD1, Classical works on CD2 and Romantic works on CD3.

Les Vent Français has a well-established reputation for impeccable interpretations and the varied selection of repertoire, and this release is a must-have collection for any enthusiast of music for winds.
