Alexandre Tharaud’s fascinating new album is based on a strong personal selection of movie tracks, many of which are well-known themes and some of which are rarer gems. Some of the compositions he wanted to record had no scores or scores that were lost and exist only now because of his recording. A lot of work has gone into acquiring and writing these scores, making arrangements, etc. Tharaud sees himself as an advocate for this music: he feels that it deserves a place within the world of classical music and that its composers merit the same respect and admiration as the classical greats. The repertoire with orchestra has been recorded with the Orchestra dell'Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia under the baton of Antonio Pappano.
