Mühlrad: REMS

Pablo Heras-Casado, Johannes Rostamo, Royal Stocholm Philharmonic Orchestra
  1. Maggid
  2. REMS

Contemporary symphonic music, composed by our young Swedish composer with the appeal of a pop/rock star.

Jacob enters in his very own approach the intimate and spiritual world of sleep – he states: “Above all, sound plays an important role in my dreams”

‘REMS’ marks the first recording of a symphonic work by Jacob Mühlrad – the piece interprets melodies from Jewish prayers and lullabies and is also inspired by elements of Indian ragas and quarter-tone technique.

Some themes and motifs from ‘REMS’ can also be found in ‘Maggid’, a shorter piece for solo baroque cello. Like a kind of musical twin, this work anticipates tonal and rhythmic-melodic ideas that “REMS” later embeds in the large orchestra.

Artwork, the SM clips and the music video for ‘REMS (Excerpt)’ were designed by renowned art director Alexander Wessely, who’s also regularly working with artists like The Weekend or Rihanna.
