As the days grow shorter, trumpeter Lucienne Renaudin-Vary invites us to join her, the Orchestre de Chambre de Paris and conductor Sascha Goetzl in the musical haven of her Winter Gardens. Among the composers to feature on the album, which sets popular songs beside favourites of the classical repertoire, are Bach, Vivaldi, Rossini, Dvořák, Kreisler, Falla, Richard Rodgers, Charlie Chaplin and, born in Uruguay in 1974 and now resident in Germany, Efraín Oscher.
“The album is like an advent calendar with tiny windows that you open up to find little surprises inside,” says Lucienne, “Pieces in various styles and from various eras and with the sounds of different instruments as I switch between flugelhorn and piccolo, B♭ and C trumpets. My intention was to create an atmosphere of warmth, simplicity and authenticity – what the Scandinavians call hygge or English-speakers call cocooning – a soft and comforting glow in the depths
of winter. Jardins d’Hiver is designed to be listened to while tucked up snug and warm at home.”
