Metheny’s continued exploration of Brazilian sounds, following Still Life, yielded another Best Jazz Fusion Grammy in 1989. At the time, the Chicago Sun-Times noted, “Few of this year's recordings are as impressive as Metheny's lush Letter … as lucid as it is lyrical.”
