Born in 2014, Cantique Lépreux feeds on Black Metal from all eras, wallowing in its essence. Inspired by the wilderness of Québec, the Occult, Death and Fear, the band creates music that is at times grim, at other times melancholic; a work born of passion, paying homage to the legends of Black Metal.
Cantique Lépreux hail from a scene that seem to endure as an archaic artefact of a genre that was immeasurably shaped by the early Scandinavian Black Metal scene and literally, there could be no more suitable place then Quebec to shape such cold and mournful black metal hymns.
STEREOGUM: "Cendres Célestes is gorgeous and dark, equal parts majestic nocturnal wonder and chaotic whirlwind, a wild tear of black metal that sears into the soul.”
ECHOES AND DUST: "a powerful listen."
NO CLEAN SIGNING: ”It’s dramatic music, steeped in melancholy and emotionally affecting, but also charged with electrifying vitality. And the inflamed, impassioned vocals are as excellent as the entrancing beauty of the melodies.”
LAST RITES: ”Cantique Lépreux's typically majestic black metal is a security blanket, a comfort food, a worn-in jacket that fits just right. In an uncertain world, that's a beautiful thing.”
