Randy first came to the attention of UK record buyers when she fronted the infectious single ‘Street Life’ by the US jazz-funk group, The Crusaders, in 1979. The single peaked at number five in the UK charts and paved the way for a clutch of memorable Crawford solo hits on Warner Bros during the years 1980 to 1986.
Her biggest British hit was the poignant ‘One Day I’ll Fly Away,’ a dreamy ballad boasting a classic Crawford vocal performance – full of vulnerability and pathos - that just failed to clinch pole position in the UK charts in 1980 (it went all the way to number two).
1981 was an even better year for the singer, she scored three UK chart entries – the yearning ‘You Might Need Somebody,’ a lovely version of Brook Benton’s atmospheric ballad, ‘Rainy Night In Georgia,’ and the romantic title track from her bestselling ‘Secret Combination’ album.
