In November 2018, The Doobie Brothers returned to the Beacon Theatre for the first time in 25 years to perform two of their landmark albums, Toulouse Street and The Captain and Me. That special performance was captured for the new PBS program, The Doobie Brothers Live From The Beacon Theatre, which will premiere in June on PBS stations (check local listings.) In addition to the broadcast, the concert will be released as 2CD, 2CD/DVD, and Blu Ray ($24.99) sets.
This historic performance at the Beacon offered an opportunity for Doobie fans to hear deep cuts and songs never-before performed live by the band. The show begins with the 10 songs from the group’s second studio album, Toulouse Street. Originally released in 1972, it’s been certified platinum. Several of the band’s most popular songs first appeared on the album, like “Listen To The Music,” “Rockin’ Down The Highway” and “Jesus Is Just Alright.”
Next, The Doobie Brothers played its third studio release, The Captain & Me. Originally released in 1973, it reached #7 on the Album Chart and has been certified double platinum. Hits include “Long Train Runnin’,” “China Grove” and “South City Midnight Lady.” The show ended with a three-song encore that included their #1 hit “Black Water.”
The Doobie Brothers are back on the road again this year and will play the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival on April 25. Later this year, the band will join Santana for an extensive summer tour across the U.S.
The Doobie Brothers have been delivering mind-blowing, roots-based, harmony-laden, guitar-driven rock and roll for more than four decades, selling more than 48 million albums and winning four GRAMMY® Awards. In all, the Doobies have tallied up five top 10 singles, 16 top 40 hits, as well as three multi-platinum, seven platinum and 14 Gold albums. Best of the Doobies (1976) has sold more than 12 million copies – a rare “diamond record.” Their latest album, Southbound (2014) features new recordings of the band’s biggest hits, with country music’s biggest stars including Blake Shelton, Zac Brown Band, Brad Paisley and Toby Keith.
