Today, Grammy-winning rock duo The Black Keys announced their 13th studio album, No Rain, No Flowers, will be released August 8th via Easy Eye Sound/Warner Records. Produced by the band themselves and recorded at Easy Eye Sound Studios in Nashville, the new album features collaborators including GRAMMY award-winning songwriters Rick Nowels and Daniel Tashian as well as legendary keys player/producer Scott Storch (Dr. Dre, The Roots).
Alongside today’s official album announcement, The Black Keys have released the titular track of the same name, “No Rain, No Flowers”. This is the third official track released from the album, following the band’s chart-topping single “The Night Before” and “Babygirl”. “The Night Before” scored the band their eighth No.1 on the Alternative Airplay chart, and is the band’s ninth No. 1 on Billboard’s Adult Alternative Airplay Chart, the fifth most on the chart to date.
Building on the spirit of collaboration established on their previous album, Ohio Players—which featured contributions from artists like Beck and Noel Gallagher—The Black Keys took a different approach with No Rain, No Flowers, choosing to work more closely with long-admired songwriters than with performers.
Dan explains, “I had worked with Rick Nowels on Lana Del Rey’s Ultraviolence. We’d never really collaborated with a keyboard player or someone who writes on piano the way he does, but it clicked immediately.”
Patrick adds, “We wanted to go straight to the source—into the room with people known for their songwriting. Daniel Tashian was one of the first people I met after moving to Nashville, and we’ve been fans of Scott Storch forever.”
Dan concludes, “This whole album was really labored over with a lot of love. We hope you feel that.”
No Rain, No Flowers delivers an eclectic sound shaped by the energy and spirit of the band’s wildly popular Record Hangs— dance parties where Auerbach and Carney take turns spinning rare, but truly potent cuts from their impressive collection of vinyl 45s for baying crowds of longtime fans and new converts alike. These electrifying and carefully curated happenings have directly influenced the groove-driven, danceable vibe of the new record. More than two decades into their career, The Black Keys consistently continue to create music on their own terms, fueled by instinct, passion, and a refusal to settle. No Rain, No Flowers is a testament to the band’s deep commitment to their craft and their enduring creativity.
The album is available for pre-order in several alternate-colored limited edition 12” vinyl variations, each with a printed inner sleeve and a 24” x 36” poster featuring unique tattoo artwork for each track on the new album. A CD format with insert poster shall also be available.
The band’s upcoming No Rain, No Flowers Tour is set to kick off next week on May 23rd in Oklahoma stopping through major cities across the US before returning to Europe in July. Following the huge fan demand for the tickets, the band announced a second US leg kicking off on August 9th in New Jersey and continuing through iconic venues including Forest Hills Stadium in New York and Blossom Music Center in the band’s home state of Ohio. Several dates have already sold out, including shows at the legendary Red Rocks Amphitheatre in Colorado, as well as their shows in Asbury Park, NJ; Bonner, MT; Boise, ID; Bend, OR; and Berkeley, CA. The band recently announced a new additional date for the tour in Springfield, MA on August 17th.
