A gang of Viking marauders under the command of their young leader, Asbjörn, bear down on the coast of
Britain, intent on pillaging Lindisfarne of its gold. But, caught in a vicious storm, their longboat is dashed to pieces on
the rocks off Scotland. Trapped deep within enemy territory, the shipwrecked men’s only chance of survival is to reach
the safety of the Viking stronghold Danelagh.

With only the enigmatic Conall, a monk who preaches with his sword to help them, they cut a bloody swath
through anyone who gets in their way. But the journey becomes a race for their lives when the King of Scotland sends
his most feared mercenaries, the Wolf Pack, after them. Traversing an unfamiliar and hostile land, they are pursued
relentlessly. However, the hunters become the hunted when the Vikings, eager for battle, set deadly traps and
mercilessly decimate their pursuers one by one…

German-born Marcus Trumpp (º1974) moved to the United States in 1999 where he has worked on a variety of film
scores from smaller independent pictures (Legwork, Vikaren) to big blockbusters (Mesrine, A Good Day to Die Hard,
World War Z). Trumpp has played the piano since childhood, but it wasn’t until he saw The Neverending Story at age 7
that he truly wanted to become a film composer.

Known for his strong orchestration skills, he was delighted to be able to record the score for Northmen with a 80-piece
orchestra.

One of the movie’s motifs is the 'Valhalla-theme', based on a three note figure, playing on the word 'Valhalla'. This
simple yet haunting theme reappears in variations throughout the score whenever death strikes or the afterlife is
discussed. Over the course of the movie, the Valhalla-theme evolves into the epic 'hero-theme'. This theme grows into
its final triumphant shape at the end when the movie’s heroes have finally formed their strong sense of brotherhood.
The orchestral recordings took place in Berlin and further overdubs were recorded in Hollywood.
Trumpp currently lives in Los Angeles with his wife and 2 children, Lily and Ennio.
