“Stowaway in the Sky” is one of these secret and discreet masterpieces of French cinema. The script of this tender and poetic film is simple: sights of France from a hot-air balloon, from Béthune to Camargue. The aeronaut-inventor grandfather and his grandson – clandestinely embarked – travel in the basket while their mechanic follows their trajectory by car, with a mandate to prepare each landing. A succession of funny, moving, picturesque and magic scenes…

Douce France appears like a curious and fascinating country, an epic character with infinite landscapes, just like Jean Prodromidès’ music which plays on all registers and all colors of the orchestra.

Born in 1927 from a Greek music-loving family, Jean Prodromidès was the favorite composer of directors Jean Delannoy (“Maigret et l’Affaire Saint-Fiacre”), Denis de la Patellière (“Le Bateau d’Émile”) and Andrezj Wajda (“Danton”). His soundtracks are of a great musical richness: catchy melodies, eyewinks towards past music and impressionist atmosphere. For “Stowaway in the Sky” he composed “a vast symphonic poem (for very big orchestra and choirs) on France”.
