Directed by Per-Olav Sørensen, The Heavy Water War is a six part dramatization of one of the most exciting stories from the Second World War - the Nazis' efforts to develop an atom bomb and the Allies' desperate struggle to prevent it from happening.

The series starts in Stockholm in 1933 when German scientist Werner Heisenberg is awarded the Nobel Prize in Physics and is congratulated by his mentor Niels Bohr – a previous Nobel Prize winner. One of the dramatic high points is the daring sabotage mission to blow up the heavy water factory in the Norwegian mountains in 1943.

Leading English, Norwegian and German actors portray real life characters and we get to understand their dilemmas and challenges in this epic story, the outcome of which will determine the future of democracy.

Kristian Selin Eidnes Andersen has worked as a composer and sound designer on some of the most significant European films of the last two decades. His work includes major collaborations with Lars von Trier (e.g. Antichrist, Melancholia, Nymphomaniac); Nicolas Winding Refn (e.g. Only God Forgives), Thomas Vinterberg (e.g. Submarino, The Hunt) and, most recently, Per-Olav Sørensen (The Heavy Water War).

The Heavy Water War is his 3rd collaboration with Per-Olav Sørensen. They started working together on the feature film ”People in the Sun”, went on to NRK Tv-Series ”The Half Brother” and continued on ”The Heavy Water War”.

It is impossible to imagine The Heavy Water War without Kristian Selin Eidnes Andersen’s compelling score, which is also why it has won the prestigious Golden FIPA Award for best Music in a Tv-series.
